So far the summer ales I've been tasting are nothing to
write home about. I noticed the return of Skinny Dip Beer, brewed by New
Belgium. That beer is pretty good. A lot of others are not. I recently tried
some Leinenkugel Summer Shandy—not so good. Some of these breweries seem to
think that summer ale should just be watery and light. But that doesn't work
for me. I still need lots of flavor and if that means just sticking to the
usual types of beer, then that is what I will do.
