Dada ist poem/event—Cliché- And the band played on

By Red Rob Blogger
Tonight at Kirbys, in Wichita, KS, I read my poem for the club—during Open Mic Night. This was my first Dada art event. I am trying to break into performance art and this was night 1. Here is what I read:

Introduction

Dona Budd's The Language of Art Knowledge: Dada was born out of negative reaction to the horrors of World War I. This international movement was begun by a group of artists and poets associated with the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich. Dada rejected reason and logic, prizing nonsense, irrationality and intuition.
Hugo Ball, 'Dada Manifesto' (read at the first public Dada soiree, Zurich, July 14th 1916):
Dada is a new tendency in art. One can tell this from the fact that until now nobody knew anything about it, and tomorrow everyone in Zurich will be talking about it. Dada comes from the dictionary. It is terribly simple. In French it means "hobby horse". In German it means "good-bye", "Get off my back", "Be seeing you sometime". In Romanian: "Yes, indeed, you are right, that's it. But of course, yes, definitely, right". And so forth.
An International word. Just a word, and the word a movement.

The actual poem:

Cliché- And the band played on

Exburt  textpert,
Smoken joken,
E burt,
Dog burt,
The cow jumped over the moon,
The coke spoon jumped up my nose,
And the band played on,
Du du du du du du,
And that ain’t all,
De de de de ta de de,
 It’s the Mr. Magoo Show,
Don’t touch that dial,
Gee I hope ya like us,
And the band played on,
Antifademo in London,
Millions of people are watching the World Cup games in Brazil,
Dharmapuri police on Saturday arrested six,
Tribal youth Podiyami Mada,
Yine provokasyon vardı,
I am the walrus—coo coo cachou,
And the band played on,
Luminosas Trincheras de Combate ,
lo que manda la historia,
escribir con nuestra sangre,
Shining trences of Combat,
The hand of history,
Is written with our blood,
And the band played on,
A total waste of time,
This one totally sucks,
This is complete bullshit,
You’ve got to be kidding me,
Sit on it Ponzy,
Bite the big one,
And the band played on,
Faster surfing,
Not one size fits all,
Your dream is out there,
Go get it,
We’ll protect it,
You shouldn’t have to pay for more than you need,
And the band played on,
And the good lord broke bread.
While the bad lord broke wind,
Let us pray,
Lettuce spray,
And the angels lit the candles,
And the cat pissed on the matches,
And the band played on.
