Ancient Greek goddess of the opium poppy

Dêmêtêr (Δημήτηρ) was the ancient Greek goddess of the opium poppy.
That’s not all she was known for. She was also the "mother-earth" or perhaps "distribution-mother," who was responsible for the grain and other agricultural needs. She was seen as the pure nourished of youth and the green earth, the health-giving cycle of life and death, and preserver of marriage. Perhaps opium poppies were the key, at that time to a perfect marriage.
According to the Athenian rhetoricians, the greatest gifts which Demeter gave were cereal which made man different from wild animals, and the Mysteries which give man higher hopes in this life and the afterlife.
There was a cult of the “poppy goddess.” the Minoan poppy goddess wears the seed capsules, sources of nourishment and narcosis, in her diadem. It is probable that the Great Mother Goddess who bore the names Rhea and Demeter, brought the poppy with her from her Cretan cult to Eleusis, and it is certain that in the Cretan cult sphere, opium was prepared from poppies"

Fuck land developer$

All around my home wild life is disappearing and there's only two groups of people to blame – land developer$ and the apologists who work for them and support them. That includes the City council of Wichita. Our great leaders in the largest city in Kansas, have decided to "move" a wetland area. In fact, what they are actually doing is destroying it for the sake of real state development. Just about all county and city elected officials are in the pockets of land developers.

Developer$ have for some time, owned the City and they do what they want. The city council never gets in there way. This protected wild life refuge used to be in the county. Now it's in city limits and all the councilmen think of is their wallets and they don't give a damn about wild life, the ecology or those people who appreciate wild life.
Move a wetland? What are they going to do, put up a sign in bird language to tell the birds where their new site is? Frogs and turtles have already disappeared from this site. Even opossums are becoming rare and coyotes have had to come into the city to forage for food. Soon they will be driven out also.

Land developer$ have destroyed our way of life in the town of Maize. Our rustic little semi-rural town in now a hub of development for Wichita. Their motto is "use every piece of land possible." They've actually said that.

One thing we still have are the rats and skunks who run our city.

As reported in The Wichita Eagle, Mar. 21, 2007:

City OKs wetland development
Council members vote to allow construction -- if the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approves.
BY BRENT D. WISTROM
The Wichita Eagle
If the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it's OK to build a Lowe's Home Improvement store on federally protected wetlands, the city will pay half the cost of relocating the wetlands.
That's an estimated $1.7 million worth of designing, digging and developing.
If the Corps denies the development, the city will have to pay for the developers' $65,000 drainage study -- an analysis the city may need someday anyway.
That's the taxpayers' side of an agreement the City Council approved Tuesday.
The 4-2 vote allows developers to build the Lowe's store, several restaurants and other stores on the wetlands east of Maize Road and south of 29th Street North.
The development will also extend to the west side of Maize Road, where there are no federally protected wetlands.

Do the Irish drink?

The Irish or known for heavy drinking and fighting. As a person who is about ½ Irish all I can say is that for some of us it is true.
Drinking’s been part of Irish culture for generations, for good or bad. Not all Iris drink, but a lot of us do or have in the past. We like our beer and whiskey.

My new “God” song

I've found a new song I can reuse, as Weird Al does, just by changing a few lyrics. Now I used John Lennon's "God" song.

The original:

God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain
I'll say it again
God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain
I don't believe in magic

I don't believe in I-ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in Tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in Mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in Yoga
I don't believe in Kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me...and that realityThe dream is over
What can I say?
the Dream is Over
Yesterday
I was the Dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
and so dear friends
you'll just have to carry on
The Dream is over

My version:

God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,
I'll say it again,
God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,
I don't believe in magic,
I don't believe in Imperialism,
I don't believe in bible,
I don't believe in capitalism,
I don't believe in Hitler,
I don't believe in Jesus,
I don't believe in Kennedy,
I don't believe in Buddha,
I don't believe in George W. Bush,
I don't believe in fundamentalists,
I don't believe in Hillary,
I don't believe in kings,
I don't believe in Republicans,
I don't believe in Gita,
I don't believe in the Iraq War,
I just believe in me,
Just good ol' me,
And that's reality.
The dream is over,
What can I say?
The dream is over,
Yesterday,
I was a drugged up dreamer,
But now I'm Hep C,
I was an amphibian,

But now I'm steve, 史蒂夫 奥多 ,
And so dear friends,
You just have to carry on,
The dream is over.

Our Red Flag of the Revolution

Every now and then, someone redoes a song. I recently heard a new version of John Lennon's "God" song. I noticed with just a few changes here and there, it could be a modern song and fit the ideas and ambitions of a different musician and song writer for a modern time.
So I decided to take a look at a song written by Pol Pot. I decided it had some merit:
"Our Red Flag of the Revolution"
Glittering red blood blankets the earth, Sacrificial blood to liberate the people:
Blood of workers, peasants and intellectuals;
Blood of young men, Buddhist monks, and young women.
Blood that swirls away and takes flight, twirling on high'
Into the sky,
Turning into the red, revolutionary flag!
Red flag! Red flag! Now floating on high! Now floating on high!
0 comrades, seethe with anger in order to destroy the enemy!
Red flag! Red flag! Now floating on high! Now floating on high!
Let our fury swoop down like a tornado!
Don't spare a single reactionary, a single imperialist!
Make a clean sweep of the Kampuchean soil!
Seething with anger, let us move into the attack!
Let us wipe out all enemies of Kampuchea!
Let us grasp the Victory! The Victory! The Victory!

So with a few changes, I was able to readopt this song for my blog:
"Our Red Flag of the Revolution"
Glittering red blood blankets the earth, Sacrificial blood to liberate the people:
Blood of workers, small farmers, migrant farm workers and intellectuals;
Blood of young men, Peace clerics, and young women.
Let our fury swoop down like a Kansas tornado!
Don't spare a single reactionary, a single imperialist!
Make a clean sweep of the American soil!
Seething with anger, let us move into the attack!
Let us wipe out all enemies of the U. S. socialists!
Let us grasp the Victory! The Victory! The Victory!
I only had to change a few words and it's a wonderful song. I even made a picture of a flag to go with it. I may use it as a logo on May 1st. I used a tooth pick for the pole, yellow magic marker for the background and my own blood for the actual red flag. I used a tiny syringe and a tiny paint brush and when blood first dried it had that nice crimson red color instead of that icky brown color it turns after about a week.
Now all I need is someone with musical talents to help me add some good music to this and it could be a top 10 hit on the metal circuit.
Next I may do my own version of Lennon's "God." It has potential.
