US coins and Native Americans--did they finally get it right?
The US just doesn’t do enough to include Native American culture. We have the Crazy Horse Memorial. We now have coins with Indians on them. We started with the Sacagawea dollar. Now they have a new coin minted to honour the role of the Native Americans. We have had Indians on our coins before, but Sacagawea has an actual name. The Indian head nickel and half and quarter eagles seemed to have an Indian on them, but they were not famous individuals.
Mexican coins have had the face of Cuauhtemocs on it. However it is only recently that the US mint took Native Americans seriously. In times passed they put an Indian bonnet on a liberty face as in the 1cent piece and the Gold Eagle $10.សតិវ អតុ
